These courses allowed me to participate in placements in special schools and mainstream with children who have been given the label of a special educational need and disability and also in Schools and Nurseries where I have had to use The current Early Years Foundation Stage. I believe I have the ability to motivate and relate well to adults and children working alongside children with all different labels and mostly with children with social and communication difficulties. My role abled me to plan and observe lessons in order to meet each child’s individual need. I also liaised with outside agencies for example, a physiotherapist. Ensuring that correct information was shared confidentially with the agency and also with parents. I believe that it is vital to work closely with parents as parents are the child’s best educator and speaking to parents about their child’s day for example, brings a close professional/parent bond. I believe I work well within a team and can relate well to others. I have experienced a range of behaviour management strategies used by professionals. I have witnessed many that I believe to work very well and also others not so well. For example, sticker charts. Praising young children publicly for ‘behaving’ rather than shouting at the children who may be he children who may be misbehaving tends to work effectively as all children enjoy the stigma of being praised and also used more in specialist provisions the egg timer strategy. However, my experience has led me to witness an early years setting which shown professionals raising their voice and shouting at young children.
