Her video works experimented with crossing the boundaries between these modalities to experience an In[bodiment] with the image (an attempt to experience the body of another). Her explorations have accentuated a new way of be[ing] in the world mediated through real-time video technology. What emerged from her research was a stretching of the material body across these boundaries be[ing] both 'here and there' at the same time.Her sense of being in the world is to be[in] the moment. Her research resulted in a series of body swapping explorations using HMDs to enable a swapping over of live video feed from one HMD to the other so one could literally see through the eyes of the other. Currently Lorna is working with bio sensing technology using heart rate monitors to connect the performer (self) and the video (other) to bridge the gap between these binary oppositions. Her findings have resulted in an augmented self extended via the technology to stretch the materiality of the corporeal body beyond it's normal parameters. The heart rate has become the catalyst which triggers video footage so the participant/performer can choreograph their own art experience, culminating in a feedback loop between the material and the immaterial. In this way the digital folds back into and changes one perception of self. These current ideas are looking for new ways to in[body] subjects to the artwork, including subject to subject in an attempt to create an inter-corporeal experience. Lorna is hoping to develop these ideas even further through mind mapping technology were one can think their art experience. Her research/practice draws on phenomenology and psychoanalysis to understand what constitutes the self and the impact emerging digital technology is having on these perceptions.
