Starting with an apprenticeship as a Biological Technical Assistant, I quickly realized the importance of continuous learning, which motivated me to pursue a Master's in Biochemistry. My academic journey led me to a Master Thesis and Research Scientist role in Alzheimer’s Research, where I focused on discovering novel cellular pathways controlling Aβ production and APP processing. Currently, I work at Bayer Pharmaceuticals in Drug Discovery Science. Here, my work involves target validation and identifcation as well as the characterization of new small molecules using state-of-the-art approaches. I have been fortunate to have great mentors along the way. One mentor's advice that has stuck with me throughout my career is: "It is easy to use assay kits, but it is always important to know the basics and the background." This statement guides me as I approach new challenges. 𝐌𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: 1) Broadening my skillset: I am constantly exploring the latest scientific research and advancements to find new starting points for target discovery and drug development. 2) Collaborating and learning from others: I value discussions with a diverse team to find solutions for challenging tasks. 3) Guiding and mentoring early career scientists: I enjoy helping students and trainees develop their strengths and being a part of their personal and scientific growth. In my time off, I love to spend time outdoors, especially walking in the forest. Standing among decades-old trees provides a fresh perspective in complex and challenging times. Nature gives me the opportunity to regain energy and take care of my mental and physical health.
