My current employer, LiDestri Food and Drink truly needs no introduction because despite the fact that it is a premier private label and contract manufacturer, when one supplies 40 million cases of product per year and is retained by celebrities for “must-have” specialty items, it inevitably becomes a household name. It is an honor to work for this excellent company and to see what new products are coming down the pike! I’d also like to write about Jane Glazer, founder of Home Trends Catalogs (later known as QCI Direct) and my employer for 17 years. As the entire Rochester community knows, to know Jane (as well as her pioneering husband, Larry Glazer) was truly to love her, and as her employee, I had the unique vantage point of learning how to give my best each and every day. Jane was more than my boss – she was a mentor – and she made it always a privilege to show up for work. In fact, the company was so successful at its peak with 25,000 orders coming in daily that none of us ever wanted to take a vacation! Jane also believed in rewarding hard work and because she was involved with so many nonprofits she regularly rewarded us with tickets to shows and community events, and to become involved with her various causes. I was especially honored to be the company’s first recipient of the “Employee of the Month” Award and to receive the Linda Ehrmann Stairwell citation for performance excellence. It was no surprise to any of us that QCI Direct was awarded the 2012 Rochester Business Ethics Award for a mid-size company. When I finally left QCI to join LiDestri, Jane said to me “you’ve been well trained.” I’ll carry that with me for the rest of my life. Rest in Peace, Jane.
