Li Wang Email & Phone Number | Long-term research objectives: Multiple immune checkpoints, including CTLA-4, PD-L1/PD-1 and B7-H4 pathways, function as “effector molecules” on multiple immunosuppressive cells, including Tregs, myeloid-derived suppressors (MDSCs) and tolerogenic DCs, to suppress adaptive T-cell responses. These immune checkpoints are thus critical for maintaining peripheral tolerance, for preventing tissue damage during inflammation, as well as for suppressing anti-tumor immunity. Harnessing the power of immune checkpoints by either triggering it or blocking it could have enormous therapeutic potential for treating human diseases. My long-term research interest lies in understanding the mechanisms of immune suppression mediated by immune checkpoint proteins, as well as manipulating these suppressive mechanisms to treat diseases such as autoimmunity and cancer.
