Through 10 years of sub-contracting and retail sales/management there are two skills I have honed and one that I went back to school to learn. Their value to me in my personal and professional life can't be understated, but the best thing about all of them is their capacity to aid and assist others. The first skill is Associate Engagement. Creative writing and theater/speech have always been favorite pastimes of mine, and the passion for both I've learned to focus into training new hires and teaching skills to old ones. People learn best through clear, interesting, and interactive means. As the Training Director at the West Des Moines Chick-Fil-A on University Ave I was taught and given the opportunity to use these skills. From teaching first-job teens procedure and interpersonal skills to setting training action plans with a dedicated team of senior employees. The second is Customer Relations. Whether I represent a big brand like AT&T or am working for a small client on a freelance-basis the methods and attitudes stay the same. Their interests are my interests, and my interest is the end-customer's success. In all titles I've held being the best-possible representation and resource to customers has been the difference maker, from sales numbers to year-end performance reviews. As a sales rep, integrity and product knowledge separated me from the rest of the field and made referrals a given. Putting customers with complicated issues at ease is especially important when finding solutions for their problems, and the "difficult" customers are the same ones who repay good work with referrals and returning business. The last is Web Development. After 6 years in retail I was ready to go back to school, and learning how to create the digital experiences I sold to customers was what I wanted to learn. For the sake of cost and time spent away from work I chose the University of Minnesota's Full-Stack Web Development Bootcamp. It was an extremely difficult but rewarding experience. Having completed or contributed to many projects both front-end and back-end, I am more than ready and willing to work with existing web applications or take on a project from start-to-finish. In school, I learned valuable skills specific to working collaboratively with other developers and all of the latest standards in modern web design.
