  Leo Sum Pe is a It’s really fascinating how rapidly technology is advancing: from Augmented/Virtual Reality to Big Data to Smart Homes to Autonomous Vehicles! But with new inventions comes new challenges and changes from traditional practices. This is why I pursue engineering, to drive the nation forward, steward and build up our community, and make the world better. Personally, I enjoy a couple hobbies such as practicing music, learning how to cook, playing board games, improving my fluency in Chinese (Cantonese, and Mandarin), and traveling both domestically and internationally. Additionally, I enjoy rigorous activities like running around the college campus perimeter and competing in a friendly game of badminton. Though never grew up playing, I even started to appreciate participating in team sports such as basketball and volleyball because they open up more opportunity to cooperate with friends and develop strong teamwork. I graduated in 2020 and got my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at University of California, Los Angeles. I was involved in three clubs: Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and Bruin Homes Solution (BHS) in the previous years. Aside from engineering, I participated in fellowships that allowed me to volunteer and raise money for UNICEF and Pediatric Aids Coalition, distribute meals to the homeless, and inspire children to pursue careers in STEM. The last two summers, I’m incredibly grateful for the given opportunity to work as a Project Engineering Intern at Luk and Associates, a Surveying and Civil Engineering Company. The office, which consists about 12-15 workers including myself, trained in me an intuition to design curb ramps, pipes, and best management practices due to a loving community of coworkers and my willingness to learn. As of now, I believe I am able to produce professional performance through my knowledge of city standards, section profiles, surface and storm and sanitary models. And currently, I am blessed for the mentorship Kier and Wright has been investing on my career.
