  Leigh Martin is a For over 25 years, I have had the opportunity to experience the world through an amazing career in international education. My worldview continues to be shaped by incredible experiences alongside leaders, colleagues, friends and family who inspire me daily. Along the way, I have learned some important lessons about myself. Creating unique solutions to strategic hurdles is where I thrive. Based on Gallup’s Strengthsfinder results, my top five strengths span all four domains of strategic thinking, relationship building, executing and influencing. I am at my best when collaborative with a team to create innovative solutions in line with priorities and possibilities - and am highly productive when encouraged to work independently to carry out my part of the team's mission. I have something to learn from everyone. Some of my greatest lessons yet have been from the most unexpected teachers such as students in the hallway, lunches with concerned parents, and even challenging times. My podcast library consists of educational & clinical psychologists to expand my thinking, a Navy SEAL to motivate me, and Mike Rowe to keep me grounded. Through them and so many others, I’ve developed the following basic rules of thumb: - Never assume I’m the smartest person in the room. - Invite dissenting viewpoints whenever possible - and listen as if I have something to learn. - Surround myself with capable people and empower them to thrive. - Compliment more than I critique; give more than I take - especially when it comes to credit. Above all - relationships matter! Authentic relationships increase empathy, deepen understanding and have been at the heart of every success I have experienced. Whether it be teaching kindergarten, sending over 500 student teachers overseas to begin their careers, overseeing parent engagement at the largest international school in the world, or leading the admissions team in a unique and growing school, I know that emotional investments in relationships are never wasted. These investments come back to pay personal and organizational dividends over time and are one of the greatest gifts I can offer. My husband, Jason, and I have raised two TCK daughters; and couldn't be more proud of them. When we are not overseas, we are spending time with family on the lake and in the woods of Ely, Minnesota in our family cabin. My children can attest that the advice I offers to others is the same that I give at home... "I'm not telling you it will be easy, but I am telling you it will be worth it."
