Lee Pian Email & Phone Number | I caught a glimpse of my future when I discovered Social Work. When I walked into my first Social Work class, I stepped into my own room and opened ZOOM. The online format of mid-pandemic classes had already made the first lessons of university seem dry. Why would this be different? Yet, at the end of the class, I felt as if the lecturer had cast a fishing line through the screen and reeled my heart in. As I learnt more about social issues and unseen communities, I felt my heart pounding at the prospect of becoming a Social Worker. You mean, there's an actual job that involves listening to stories, journeying with strangers, growing in empathy, challenging your assumptions, and sharpening your skills? I'm in. And I haven't looked back since. Every opportunity that came my way only solidified my choice, whether it's classes, community engagement projects, or internships. Being an MOHH Community Care scholar has also built me up for an impactful role in supporting patients, families, and other medical professionals in the vulnerable environment of healthcare settings. I want to rise to the challenge and meet the pressing needs of Singapore's ageing society.
