  Lee Parsons is a I am a Field Service Engineer (FSE) for Agilent Technologies servicing HPLC and LCMS installations. This includes installation, maintenance and repair. I share responsibility for instruments over an area that reaches from the Dakotas to Kansas, and Minnesota to Arkansas. I am also an experienced protein biochemist with documented successes in both the wet and dry labs. Previously I was responsible for improving yield and purity in production of therapeutic proteins for MNPHARM. The company goal was to drive down the cost of specific recombinant proteins by a factor of 100 through the use of plant expression systems and efficient purification. Under my tenure we brought our first protein to market, after driving up yield, increasing purity, and reducing time from plant to product. I brought several important new technologies to this group to enable this including western blotting and proteomics data analysis. Prior to that I was the biological mass spectrometry expert at the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute (MSI) at the University of Minnesota. I collaborated with a large number of different PIs on proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics work; my work included both upstream and downstream work relative to the instrument. I worked as a postdoc in the University of Minnesota department of chemistry under Dr. Edgar A Arriaga. Work there was primarily interested in the process of autophagy and a specialization of it called mitophagy. I worked on some of the protein signatures of these processes and the mechanisms that bring them about. My PhD work was primarily concerned with protein-peptide interactions in the yeast vacuolar ATPase. Prior to that I worked for two years in bioinformatics at the University of Minnesota, working on plant transcriptomics - during that work I learned Perl and SQL. I have also managed computers and networks using varied combinations of Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, FreeBSD, IRIX, Netware, and Solaris. In wetlab and proteomics work, I have done gene cloning and subcloning, mutagenesis, protein purification, and protein interaction studies. I have used FPLC, HPLC, ITC, and CD to name a few techniques. I was also responsible for some time for the care and feeding of a Waters Q-Tof Micro mass spectrometer to which we added a nanoAcquity UPLC from the same manufacturer for LC-MSMS capabilities. On the informatics side during my graduate school experience I was also the department Unix guru, managing and upgrading an SGI Altix cluster as well as the connections to it from other systems on our network.
