In addition to routine departmental duties, it's given me opportunities to learn a variety of interesting non-conventional hands on skills such as firefighting, flood control, and casualty response which provide a foundation for important soft skills such as stress management, mental focus, prioritization, and command to name a few. Sales and Documentation provided valuable customer service experience and attention to detail, two essential skills particularly in today's economic climate were consumers are typically more informed and have less brand loyalty. My positions with MDA and Nova Scotia Power in Project Coordination and Workforce Management have so far provided the most job satisfaction. The fast paced environment of supporting daily operations with Nova Scotia Power and the planning and execution of project management with MDA compliment my military background and experience nicely. As a resource allocation expert with Irving Energy and Parkland Fuels, I’ve gained valuable experience and training on resource management, scheduling, and optimization. I’ve also had the pleasure of leading a diverse team of drivers and dispatchers through challenging organizational changes using change management techniques, transformational leadership techniques, and collaboration in order to transition from an antiquated operations model to using sophisticated software to help determine route optimization and cost savings. I miss an old passion that resided at 3rd Degree Training in Dartmouth. I began their boot camp style of physical training in July 2013 to help my sister/owner as a motivator to other 'Boot Campers,' correcting form and encouraging performance, drive, and focus on goals. It was an incredibly rewarding experience to get to participate in people’s journey towards better health and increased confidence. The business has unfortunately closed however I maintain many past relationships and continue on my own path to fitness.
