Leah Beckbridge is a As UK Data Privacy Manager I have responsibility for both the operational day-to-day and strategic functioning of data protection and privacy for Clifford Chance LLP's UK offices in London and Newcastle. Based out of our London office and reporting to the Head of Data Privacy, I am engaged with privacy and data protection matters for Clifford Chance LLP at all levels. This involves liaising and working with the UK Practice Areas and Business Professionals teams across both offices to ensure their and the firm's ongoing compliance in all things UK DPA/UK GDPR. I operate as the local expert and central point of contact for all UK-focussed privacy questions and I provide specialist advice for the UK offices, liaising as appropriate with UK office senior management. I have significant hands on experience in translating regulations into working business operations and processes while ensuring alignment with both laws (EU/UK GDPR, PECR etc.) and my firm's strategic objectives – two things that sometimes do not always align. With significant real-world, lived experience with privacy regulations, how to translate and apply them within an organisation, what frictions they may introduce and what compromises sometimes need to be considered, I fulfil a crucial role in ensuring ongoing compliance with privacy laws.
