What makes them tick, why do they do the things they do and how can I help them achieve their wants and needs? This obsession drew me into the field of User Experience Design (UX) - it gives me a platform to be able to change the way that customers interact with digital services and products, it gives me the insight to really understand what customers need and when they need it. Today the world is changing at an unprecedented rate, our values, understandings and even beliefs are shifting in a way that no one thought was possible. That leaves us a huge task to tackle: how do you design for a shifting, moving, morphing society - what does good look like then? Could it be that we need to hit the 'reset' button every once in a while and ask ourselves some deep, fundamental questions? Could it also be that we need to change our values as designers, in order to create better experiences for this new, fluid, digital population? Could it simply mean tearing up the old, outdated, personas of the past and instead relying on pure data and insights? We have a huge opportunity to use design as a problem/task solving tool for our customers. That we might shape the path they tread and indeed steer them towards simple, intuitive, but also epic and memorable experiences is an esteemed honour. That we may paint a picture of a better, more sustainable future is an absolute must. Here are some tools that I use on an ever-day basis to make our customers lives better: - Design strategy (How can we use this powerful tool in ever changing times) - Thought leadership (Don't wait to be asked, share your vision - take others on the journey) - Cross discipline engagement (We need to work together, we all have a part to play) - Customer facing communications (What we say and how we say it will be remembered) - Stakeholder management (get the best from your colleagues - give the best to them) - UX evangelism (Share the passion for making things awesome - get people excited) - Concept creation (Being quick is often better than being right - build, test, learn) - User testing (Test your hypothesis on the people who need it to work well) - User research (Constantly study the people you design for)
