I carried out a thesis in partnership with the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts, entitled "Work Discussion Spaces (WDSs) : design-for-use, design-in-use". The thesis is in line with research works in ergonomics, management, work psychology and psychodynamics of work. These labour sciences develop methodologies for intervention and discussion on work, to build management, organisation and even governance systems that give a voice to actors at all hierarchical levels. These methodologies aim at better taking into account the realities of work in the organisation and decision-making processes. The thesis thus studies Work Discussion Spaces (WDSs) set up in four companies: two social protection organizations, a banking institution and the french postoffice. By showing how these WDSs have been designed for use by designers and then adapted in use by agents and managers, it reflects upon the conditions for implementing a discussion on work, the intervention methodologies that can develop and support it over time, and its effects and implications in terms of management, participation and decision-making. Previously, I contributed to a study of the links between work, health and absenteeism among bus drivers, within a multidisciplinary team of researchers.
