Larry Naukam Email & Phone Number | For more than 30 years I worked in libraries and information centers, using various techniques and technologies to enhance access to historical materials. As technologies developed I tried to use them to make collections more accessible for students and researchers. Wrote the original guides and pathfinders to the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County (NY)'s Local History and Genealogy Division; made sure that they were updated and eventually put online; and developed displays and partnerships with local schools and colleges. I have written for Running Times (1978-1990), Genealogical Computing (1987-2005), Genweekly (2005-2013) and The In-Depth Genealogist (2014-2018). For the library, we won the best display award at the 2010 World Canals Conference; wrote successful applications getting the library into the National Library of Medicine's Guide to Medical History Libraries, did the same for the National Park Service's Underground Railroad list of research sites and also for the NPS's research site for the Erie Canal. Identified and had digitized many volumes of research materials, and edited several issues of the Rochester History quarterly pamphlet. In 2003 started the genealogy docent program from the Rochester Genealogical Society. Since retiring I have been busy doing volunteer church record scanning for the RGS and historical document scanning for the Geneva Historical Society and the Newark (NY) Public Library. I was appointed a community rep for the DPLA in 2013. My interests continue to be networking and making historical materials more easily available.
