Dr. Tolle is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the eScience Institute at the University of Washington. During most of her 19-year career at Microsoft, Dr. Tolle worked in Microsoft Research, directing programs in Data Science, Natural User Interactions, and Environmental Science tool development. In all cases, her work centered on Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, big data and their role in science and analysis. Throughout her career, Dr. Tolle’s work has focused on using AI for social justice, protecting the environment, and improving healthcare outcomes. During her tenure at Microsoft Research, she also co-edited and authored one of the earliest books on big data, The Fourth Paradigm: Data Intensive Scientific Discovery.
