I became interested in a people centered job when I worked part time as a caregiver in high school. I was working for a couple, doing basic everyday things for them and really enjoyed the social aspect of the job. It has been 4 years since I worked for them and I still visit often. I had no idea what field exactly I wanted to go into in college and while I was figuring it out, working as a server was the perfect job. I like smiling and helping people. I think that’s why I’ve done so well as a server. I believe that if I have a positive, happy attitude, that is exactly what I’ll attract towards me, happy, positive people. I love being able to foster friendships with the people I meet. Being a server is a very team-oriented job. The first day at a new job I felt stressed out because everything was new and hectic. Surprisingly I found that after only a couple of hours on the job almost every single one of my coworkers had offered to help me. This is the kind of environment I love, being able to interact with people and help one another. I chose marriage and family counseling because I can work with people and help them. When I realized what my ideal profession would be, I was at Yavapai College. The more psychology classes I took, the more I wanted to know. This career for me is the perfect mix of not only my interests, but also my strengths. I love working with people and helping them. I am a good problem solver and pride myself in my ability to stay objective in difficult situations. I have no doubt I will continue to enjoy learning about psychology and expanding my experiences in the field. I believe that there are always people willing to help, if we are open to being helped. I’m a optimistic, never give up kind of person.
