Dr. Copeland is passionate about improving her patients’ access to high quality early education opportunities, recognizing their importance for equity, children’s health, economic success, and wellbeing. She secured local funding to bring patients in the clinic where she practices (90% insured by Medicaid) an early education specialist, who helps connect families to high-quality child care, speech and hearing therapies, and teaches parents about how to support their child’s development. Dr. Copeland also studies effective ways to prevent obesity, to promote physical activity, and to foster the development of healthy eating habits in environments where children spend most of their time. She was PI of the USDA-sponsored Study on Nutrition and Wellness in Child Care Settings (SNACS) (2014-2021). Dr. Copeland was the director of the General Pediatrics Research fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital from 2009-2022. This competitive & highly sought-after T32 fellowship has been continuously funded for 25 years by the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA).
