Working in a growing small business means no two days are the same. Along with the regular requirement for keeping costs and billing on track is the need to continually evaluate our systems, implementing ways of working that address the need for accurate reporting in a dynamic and demanding growing business. As part of the TonyG director team I am responsible for all aspects of managing the financial health of the company, including forecasting, planning and generally contributing to our strategic direction. Being an integral part of the creation of a new directorship scheme within the company is something I’m proud of. Schemes like this can be complex but allow for staff engagement in company ownership which can be so beneficial and innovative. The crafting element of TonyG I really enjoy and I’m always on the look-out for opportunities to leave my desk and join in with a bit of making. Ideally anything that involves precision work with a Stanley knife, playing with the laser cutter or even weeding a bit of vinyl will do. Along with parenting two under 12’s there’s not a lot of time left outside of work, but what crafting time there is I spend mostly on fabric work and dressmaking! I’m increasingly interested in sustainability and concerned about the current fashion industry’s impact on our world resources. The fact that TonyG has low carbon footprint so high on their agenda means we’ll be better able to support brands with sustainable values at their core. For me that’s another dot connected. Creativity + accountancy + sustainable fashion!
