Equipped with an array of experiences acquired through constant scrutiny of my surroundings, I adapt quickly and can provide feedback and innovative solutions. My observational skills were foundational to my success as a math teacher. I found that in a general math lesson, there was extraordinarily little time, if any, to observe and truly listen to students. Due to the ever-present pressure to improve math scores, I changed the way my class was structured. Specifically, I created more feedback loops via problem presentations, group work, and concept discussions to more rapidly identify and address gaps in performance. I introduced problem-based learning to our school for the first time, and AP scores were subsequently improved from a 56% to 75% pass rate by 2020. I served as a liaison between the math department and administration in the drive to implement problem-based learning on a grander scale. By giving realistic goals to teachers and measurable benchmarks to administration, this innovative collaboration was successful. Currently, the amount of information to consume is growing exponentially. Observers and analysts are needed now more than ever to digest it and find creative solutions. I look forward putting my skill set to excellent use as a management consultant after obtaining my MBA.
