Globally and nationally, Katie is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for 9/11 Day and a former advisory board member of the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation Center for Corporate Citizenship and the UNC Educational Foundation (The Rams Club). In May 2012, Katie participated as a delegate for the US Department of State-sponsored program to Israel and the West Bank coordinated by the American Council of Young Political Leaders. In 1995, she captained the USA Under-19 Women’s Lacrosse Team to a silver medal in the world championship. State-wide and locally, Katie is a Director on the UNC School of Government Foundation Board, a Summer Careers Academy Steering Committee Member, and Vice Chair of the Orange County/Chapel Hill-Carrboro Joint Career and Technical Education Business Advisory Board. She is a former Director of the Board or Advisory Board Member for: Durham Tech Foundation; the Regional Partnership Workforce Development Board; Central Carolina Region Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC), which includes two centers (UNC-Chapel Hill and NCCU) and serves six counties; the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership Board of Directors; and the Orange County Local Reentry Council. Katie is a graduate of Leadership North Carolina (2018), Leadership Chapel Hill-Carrboro (2017), and Town of Chapel Hill's Inaugural Peoples Academy (2018), Orange County Government Academy (2023), as well as the US Chamber Foundation's Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) Academy (2020). She is a Six Sigma-certified Yellow Belt (2019). She earned an MPA and BA in Communication Studies with honors from the UNC-Chapel Hill, where she co-captained the NCAA Div. I Women’s Lacrosse Team. There is an endowed scholarship in her name. Currently, Katie is earning her doctorate (EdD) from NC State and is Adjunct Faculty at UNC teaching nonprofit management while working full-time as the inaugural executive director of the NC Community Colleges Foundation. A Master Gardener (2015-2016), Katie is delighted to live in “Blue Heaven” and cultivate a beautiful four-acre woodland forest, which will be featured on the 2024 Chapel Hill Garden Club Tour.
