During my Ph.D. at the University of Copenhagen I was the first to purify the full length human hERG K-channel, an ion channel of utmost importance to heart physiology and for drug screening, and the only two K-channels encoded by the malaria parasite, plasmodium falciparum, it their active form. I developed expression, purification and fermentation protocols for production in S. cerevisiae and managed to purify material enough for electrophysiological characterization and structure determination. Based on my experience with these very challenging proteins I have obtained in depth experience with pilot plant scale yeast fermentation, expression optimization, detergents, protein purification using the Äkta explorer, ion channel characterization and DNA technology.
