In 2017, Karen turned her interest in environmental advocacy to the nonprofit world, joining a small but effective organization promoting the use of native plants for their importance to healthy ecosystems. Most recently, in 2020, she helped establish a nonprofit focused on building public awareness and acceptance for fusion energy in advance of the development and commercialization of the technology. Karen is passionate about the environment and climate issues. She enjoys getting outdoors, especially ocean kayaking and biking, and has a strong interest in travel and exploring new places and cultures. She has traveled to over 35 countries and enjoys applying her love of photography to her outdoor and travel adventures.
