As a Helpline Practitioner our role is to receive multiple calls and emails from members of the public throughout the day, including professionals, who each have concerns for child welfare and safety. We have to explore those concerns, conduct an assessment based on the risks, and share information with the relevant statutory agencies. I believe this is where I developed my strong assessment and active listening skills. This role also requires incredible task management skills to prioritise concerns and appropriate actions. We often support vulberbale and at risk groups and provide helpful advice and guidance. This is the most rewarding part of the role. Social Inclusion Assistant at Coop Academy Swinton 2019-2020: Such a fulfilling and challenging role! My role as an inclusion assistant was to engage with pupils who may display challenging behaviours in education, and provide them with a learning environment which encourages reflection, exploring their interests and potential, and continued access the education system. This role required immense focus when faced with difficult circumstances, and excellent communication skills with multi-agency professionals, children, and parents. An element of my core interpersonal skills became integral to the school day, as no two days were the same, and remembering that most importantly, ensuring that children’s positive access to the education system is reflective of their healthy psychological and emotional development. Youth Worker for Salford Youth Service (Salford City Council) 2018-2020: Such a unique profession! Being a youth worker in Salford was such a proud moment for me; a fellow Salfordian. Being a role model for young people, and providing opportunities through multi-agency work was a key part of my role. There are times when young people truly believe their youth worker was the reason they followed the right path, experienced new activities, and felt genuinely understood and supported. DICK CAMPLIN EDUCATION TRUST (DCET) SCHOLAR. DCET awarded me with a scholarship after gaining the qualifications I needed to go to university. DCET is a trust that is primarily aimed at young people who have overcome significant barriers and adversity during their time in education by offering a network of support for interviews and job applications,to say the least, and a chance to give back to those that may be suffering from similar barriers in education today.
