While I strive to be as data-driven and as strategic in decision-making as possible, there comes a point when someone has to make the call and move forward. I am comfortable with being decisive when needed. Analysis paralysis is real and it it can be real bad. - Deming's System of Profound Knowledge. My management style is largely informed by Deming's philosophies, and I've found a lot of success in leading teams accordingly. I believe that strong management and leadership requires: 1) Appreciation for a system (empower people to improve the system, don't berate them about results) 2) Understanding of variation (the difference between special cause vs. common cause matters) 3) Basic understanding of epistemology (how do you and your teams know what you know?) 4) Understanding of basic human psychology (empathy goes a long way) - I got skills. I am comfortable with statistical analysis software (Minitab, R) and have completed many projects using them. I even started my own company offering location analysis services to medical professionals that relied on R to build models and comprehensive reports (see report below). I also built a web-based inventory management system using ASP.NET, C#, and SQL. And as a certified Black Belt, I am very comfortable with project management tools and techniques and use them regularly to deliver business results that improve the bottom line. - Simplify, innovate, automate. So many tech companies want to simply purchase software that will automate their processes. Yet, they get into a pickle when they need to change systems with complex webs of automated dependencies. Instead, identify the customer and how they define value. Streamline processes to deliver it. Optimize them. And only then should you begin to look to automation.
