  Julie Lepianka is a Since 1990, I have engaged countless audiences as a public speaker and healthcare consultant on a variety of topics including: compassion, spirituality, self-reflection, addiction, eating disorders, healthy parenting, and education. I am currently a Nursing Professor at Cardinal Stritch University where I developed, and teach, an innovative Spiritual Health course. The course is a unique combination of collaboration, actor portrayed simulation, shadowing opportunities with interdisciplinary health care professionals (palliative care physicians, chaplains, hospice nurses), combined with group and individual self-reflection. Engaging in this type of experiential learning has greatly enhanced the ability of participants to provide spiritual care, address emotional/spiritual distress, and lead difficult conversations with great compassion. Numerous former students have stated that they were chosen above other RN applicants due to the skills learned in this course. My passion is connecting with others (whether that be leaders in health care or academia, or students and patients) in a way that motivates people to push themselves to learn and connect with one another. My ability to use personal stories provides an entertaining yet safe and supportive learning environment with a strong sense of community. This type of interaction is key for participants to become engaged and motivated to learn, as well as self-reflect. I believe it is my soul's purpose to teach others how to truly connect (with patients, colleagues, classmates, or themselves) through self-reflection, collaboration, and experiential learning.
