Julian Email & Phone Number | Over the last four years, almost five years, while working at the United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) as a Staff Representative, I have had the privilege of working and learning how to be a successful Staff Representative at an NEA/AFT local. While working at UESF as a Staff Representative, I have expanded my knowledge base and skill set to successfully represent educators at San Francisco Unified School District and two Public Charter Schools. Through my work at UESF, I have successfully organized and negotiated a new contract for a Classified unit at Five Keys Charter School. I have worked diligently with UESF leadership and members to build a robust UESF Special Education Committee and a robust high school division where we identified and activated over 25 new member leaders. I bring over ten years of experience in organizing, training staff and members, relationship building, and advocating for working-class families. I have organizing and representative experience both internal and external in various settings, from organizing campaigns to statewide contract campaigns, coalition and base building in Southern California, and electoral campaign work to elect labor allies to office. I have provided training and development for member leaders. As an Organizer for SEIU locals and other progressive organizations, I have organized members around issues that directly influenced their working conditions. I also have extensive experience in political organizing. During the 2012 election cycle, I led a team of over 50 organizers in Riverside to elect Senator Richard Roth and Assembly Member Jose Medina. Throughout my different experiences, one of the constant skills I have used successfully is building long-term, meaningful relationships with members, staff, and community & political allies. I went to Hoover High School in San Diego, a inner-city high school; my freshman class was 800, but only 300 graduated. From that point on, I decided to make education and community activism an essential part of my life. I entered San Diego State University intending to become a teacher, but as I became more involved in community organizing, that changed. I decided to help and fight the injustice in the higher education admission process caused by Proposition 209 in California. My first job right out of college was as a Community Organizer working towards getting more students of color into higher education.
