Judith James Md Email & Phone Number | My research group is focused on understanding the etiology and pathogenesis of systemic autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, as well as immune responses to select infections and vaccinations. I serve as principal investigator of the NIAMS-funded Oklahoma Rheumatic Disease Research Cores Center, NIAID-funded Oklahoma Autoimmunity Center of Excellence, NIAID-funded Autoimmunity Prevention Group U01, NIGMS-funded Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources and NIGMS-funded Center of Biomedical Research Excellence in Mentoring Immunology in Oklahoma. As such, I have extensive experience in completing collaborative autoimmune disease studies. Our group has nearly 20 years of extensive experience in characterizing human, humoral immune responses to autoantigens, deciphering etiologic triggers, elucidating early events in lupus autoimmunity and identifying changes in immune responses associated with disease flare and therapeutic response. I have a broad background in clinical immunology, humoral autoimmunity, complex human genetics, rheumatology and patient-oriented investigation. I have published >200 peer-reviewed publications in understanding complex autoimmune disease; a few are listed below. Through my senior leadership roles as a department head and with the aforementioned grants, I have extensive experience in collaborative research, especially providing clinical expertise, well-characterized samples and immunological response data for the proposed research studies. In summary, I have a demonstrated record of successful and productive research projects in an area of high relevance for clinical immunology and autoimmune disease research, and my expertise and experience have prepared me to provide appropriate support for this project. Through our ORDRCC I serve as senior mentor and as the Principal Investigator.
