Joshua Turnbull Email & Phone Number | Before having completed my degree in Mechanical Engineering (honours) at the University of Newcastle, I had begun in industry working as a CNC machinist for NuPress Group where I learned the more intricate and detailed side of both Technical Design manufacturing processes. This experience gave me valuable insight into technical design decisions, hands on experience working on CNC Lathes and Mills to create high tolerance components, and gave me the background knowledge to understand technical documents and drawings. Moving into the field of Mechanical Engineering whilst concurrently completing my final year of university, I began working with Aqua Energy Group in the extensive and ever expanding Australian Construction and Infrastructure industry. Working in this important industry has given me invaluable experience and knowledge into engineering design, project management and technical analysis required to envisage in Tier 1 projects. I have been involved in a number of large scale projects, including the M4-M5 Westconnex link tunnel project being completed in Sydney where I was involved in the design, project management, construction, commissioning and handover of a number of installations including Hydrant and Deluge Fire Suppression Systems, main supply riser installations and other key infrastructure elements. For this project, my role was to facilitate and complete the requirements of the contract including the management of engineering design, fabrication and quality control. I was also responsible for the co-ordination of subcontractors, contract specifics including variations, overall oversight on construction activities on site, commissioning of the system and client handover. Other projects in which I was involved to a similar degree include the Snowy Hydro 2.0 project, various containerised Fire and Potable Water supply systems for use on NSW and QLD mine sites, Chemical Reagent Plants, and other industrial level fire suppression systems. It is this experience and background knowledge that I have now taken into the Defence and Aerospace industry with Varley Group where I am working as a Mechanical Design Engineer with a talented multidisciplinary team to design and oversee construction of project deliverables whilst also maintaining active communication with key stakeholders. My roles and responsibilities in this position include the detailed design of Defence systems, technical and specification management, oversight of quality control of fabrication and project contract specifics relating to project deliverables.
