Joshua Barry Email & Phone Number | Currently seeking a fulltime position as a physical scientist or engineer where I can utilize my education, research experience in varying fields of physics, and enthusiasm to collaborate with peers. My primary objective is to enhance the understanding of the Earth’s interplanetary and atmospheric environment through the design, fabrication, calibration, and ultimate analysis of space/atmospheric data. I was a doctoral student at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) in the field of space physics with over 9 years of research experience. A few of my responsibilities at UNH related to the heliospheric ion composition instrument PLASTIC (aboard NASA’s STEREO satellites) include: in-flight calibration of the PLASTIC instrument, modeling of the PLASTIC time-of-flight (TOF) response using IDL and SRIM, and producing data products characterizing suprathermal/energetic protons. As an intern at Kennedy Space Center and undergraduate researcher at Florida Tech (FIT), I performed research associated with the electrodynamic dust shield (EDS) project. At KSC, I assisted in the design/fabrication of a portable electronics box to house and field-test the EDS. At FIT, my group and I investigated the dielectric properties of lunar and Marian soil simulants using a glove box I designed/fabricated. HIGHLIGHTS: • Published in American Institute of Physics, 2013 • 1 of 5 students to be fully sponsored by NASA to attend the 2010 COSPAR conference • Fully sponsored to attend the 2009 SHINE conference through a NSF-SHINE grant Research as a graduate and undergraduate student has equipped me with a diverse set of skills useful as a physical scientist or engineer: programming (IDL), data acquisition/analysis, modeling, design, fabrication, written and oral communication. The most essential skill I possess is the ability to solve complex problems through critical thinking and cognitive skill acquisition.
