New years 2018 I was involved in an accident on a mine site were the use of heavy duty slings and shackles were required to be carried down the side of over blast in far from ideal conditions to upright the dozer. Been a keen offshore yacht racer I was aware of a product used in sailing called a soft shackle/dog bone, which if super sized and made a little more robustly, they could do the job of replacing these very heavy steel shackles by cutting down there weight by as much as 6 times. We went into action and soon had a prototype ready to go which was a great success, and then went on to win the 2019 Queensland Mining Industry Safety and Health Innovation awards. At this point, we made the move setting up our business, Soft Rigging Solutions, bringing our initiative light weight, safety products to the world.
