Before joining Doctor of Public Health program at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, he worked for UNICEF as a Social and Behavior Change (SBC) specialist in Nepal, Ghana, India, HQ, and Malaysia for over nine years. His primary responsibility was to conduct applied research, design evidence-based SBC strategies, and evaluate large-scale SBC programs in public health. He advised numerous Health Ministries to introduce new vaccines such as HPV, IPV, and PCV, design evidence-based child obesity campaigns, and strengthen risk communication and community engagement capacity for health workers. He has published several research papers at BMJ Global Health, Vaccine, and Bulletin of WHO. At UNICEF Malaysia, he led office-wide emergency response for COVID-19 and Polio outbreak and established the first-ever adolescent mental health program in the office. He was also selected for an exclusive leadership track called NETI at UNICEF that offered a two-year-long intensive coaching and mentoring program for selective emerging leaders. Before joining UNICEF, Joon worked for the Korean Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Afghanistan, operated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KOICA. Also, he worked for UNHCR Southeast Asia headquarters as well as the Center on International Cooperation at New York University. He received his MA degree at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where he was selected as a class speaker at his graduation.
