Jon Blackwell is a I create products that empower and meet the needs of the underserved. I co-founded Tala, a mobile credit company. Our apps have been downloaded millions of times and are in the overall Top 10 in each market we serve. For the first four years at Tala, I lead product development and engineering teams to build an Android application which credit scores and provides instant loans to qualified applicants. In order to localize our app to serve the customers of each market, I spent significant time in each of these countries to understand the customer's unique needs and start the business from scratch. After building a successful business in Kenya, I lead the company’s geographic expansion in the Philippines and Tanzania, and have laid the groundwork for expansion in more countries. Additionally, I assisted the CEO's efforts to raise over $90M in financing from seed stage to our most recent Series C, have grown the company from 3 to over 120 employees worldwide, and also serve on the Board of Directors. Specialties: Lean and agile product development; fintech; market entry strategy; digital payments; mobile financial services; eBanking; mobile money; emerging markets; international development; leadership; recruiting; corporate strategy; fundraising; and building a healthy, happy work culture :)
