Colleagues like to refer to me as a "devsigner," and that's about right. If solving a design problem can be done in Figma or with a flowchart, that's what I'll do. If it requires tinkering around with Swift in Xcode to produce a working prototype, I'll do that. I'm always trying to improve my understanding of how software works, in order to better design for it. — I first worked as an animator and interaction designer for Xplane, a pioneering "visual language" consulting company. During this time, I began to grow increasingly interested in issues of interface and application design. I left Xplane to work as creative director for Qarbon, a company specializing in multimedia training tools. There I worked to develop the company and product brands, and collaborated with software engineers on the development of Qarbon's projects. Next I worked at Firewheel Design, developing interfaces for not only desktop applications and web sites, but also PVRs, cell phones and other digital devices. I was also involved in the development of new products and services for our customers such as the online invoicing app, Blinksale. Firewheel later morphed into Alamofire, Inc., a social gaming company, and then turned its attention to Gowalla, a location-based social travel guide. The Gowalla team were picked up by Facebook in late 2011. From 2011 to 2018 I designed software interfaces for iPhone, iPad and more at Black Pixel, a software development company that offers such well-regarded products as NetNewsWire, Versions and Kaleidoscope. In late 2018, Black Pixel was acquired by Hypergiant. In 2021, I got to join the team at 1Password.
