I am now retired and have recently developed an interest in the influence of Chaos Theory in Psychology. I seek collaboration with persons who are able to apply dynamic system methodology (e.g. NetLogo) to a model of academic motivation as outlined below. With a view to better understanding the role of psychological well-being for academic motivation this paper outlines an investigative approach. Influenced by Chaos Theory it proposes the introduction of randomness in a dynamic systems model of academic motivation. The model assumes choice of goal orientation is the outcome of the process of feedback loops that influence identity, self beliefs and perceived value of school, psychological traits and psychological states. Importantly these latter two concepts are defined and differentiated. The model adopted consists of representative factors in which two randomly selected contradictory psychological states (e.g. happiness, sadness) act as mediators on academic motivation.
