John Heller Email & Phone Number | During my PhD research I focused on finding new ways of utilizing wastewater surveillance data to inform public health decision making and preparedness. I find myself most passionate about data analysis and public health surveillance. I care about sharing information and ideas across professions, and focusing on taking big ideas and being able to apply them to real-world problems. I became familiar with a number of analytical skills, such as machine learning ensembles, Monte-Carlo simulations, Bayesian INLA applications in geospatial analyses, and Bayesian evidence synthesis. I have work experience working at the state and national level as well, having worked during the COVID-19 pandemic as a data analyst and Public Health surveillance epidemiologist at the CDC Foundation. This has provided me with valuable experience, as well as an ability to work well with complex data processes (and an appreciation the field of Public Health Informatics). In the future, I hope to continue research that will further develop processes in working with Public Health data - in particular evidence synthesis and machine learning applications.
