I am currently leading the Merck Schistosomiasis Elimination Program and Global Schistosomiasis Alliance at Merck Group. Schistosomiasis is a Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) caused by parasitic worms and which affects populations, both adults and children, in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our programme aims not only to treat the disease by providing the right medicines to affected populations, it also aims to eliminate this disease through integrated initiatives combining health education, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) initiatives and innovation. As an advocate for the elimination of NTDs, I believe in the importance of collaboration in order to make schistosomiasis history over the next decade and in the necessity to innovate and find sustainable solutions together.
