Johanna Hettinga Email & Phone Number | I am a research scientist working at Procter & Gamble in Baby Care, where I use my technical abilities to develop and test new innovations, as well as work on expanding my skills in consumer research. Previously, I have worked on developing next generation vaccination strategies. In particular, I worked during my PhD on transdermal delivery of DNA vaccines at the University of Oxford, as part of the Synthetic Biology CDT. In my research, I brought together my expertise in DNA, molecular biology and engineering to deliver DNA vaccines transcutaneously utilising ultrasound-mediated cavitation. My research spreads the breadth of designing novel DNA vaccines, developing formulations, characterising ultrasound signatures and evaluating immune responses. I am also keen to work on translating science from bench to market and engaging with the wider community on the research being done. My passion for translating this science led to my minor in Entrepreneurship and multiple internships in industry, including Customem, AkzoNobel and most recently Touchlight Genetics. For the past few years, I have also been actively engaged with Oxford Hands-On Science, a student outreach organisation, to encourage younger pupils to consider a career in the sciences and to inform the public on the amazing research being done. In future I hope to be an active researcher in the field of applied biotechnology, synthetic biology and biomedical engineering.
