Joanna SperrynJones Email & Phone Number | I completed my PhD in May 2013 entitled; 'Breaking as making: In what ways can making sculpture contribute to understanding perceptions and experiences of breaking?' In 2006 I broke my collarbone three times, my wrist and my hand and when I returned to making sculpture I could only relate to my previous artwork by breaking it. Exploring this relationship was the starting point for my PhD and the theme of 'breaking' is central to my research but it arises in many different contexts and I deal with it on different planes. In particular my current research focuses on breaking as a methodology and also how the physical act of breaking can create a new subject position (eg that of the breaker) in those participating.
