Over the course of my period of self-employment I have written an article for publication in the Journal of Practice Teaching and Learning, co-presented a workshop at the 2011 ScOPT Conference, set up a mentoring project for children and young people (the 'Ripple Buddies'), and currently work with a colleague to offer monthly, facilitated, student group supervision sessions. In March 2018 I was shortlisted for Practice Teacher of the Year at SASW's annual awards on World Social Work Day - I was honoured to have been nominated by esteemed colleagues and previous students, and was awarded a 'highly commended' certificate. I am also a trained Family Group Decision Making Co-ordinator working with older adults for Kalm Solutions. I have worked with the Tayforth Partnership and Learning Network West as an Assessor for the Practice Development Award in Practice Learning, and with Glasgow Caledonian University in the role of Independent Practice Learning Tutor, both roles broadening my experience in social work education. I have worked for the Learning Network West in a temporary post as Practice Development Officer working with colleagues from the Network, five Universities, thirteen local authorities and a large number of voluntary organisations to identify appropriate placements for 250 students - this opportunity enhanced my knowledge of cross-sector working, practice learning developments across Scotland and strategic partnerships, as did my six months working with the Open University in Scotland's Social Work team. Most recently I have held the roles of Student Placement Programme Manager and Head of Learning and Development with Four Square homelessness charity in Edinburgh, where I had the opportunity to create a centre of excellence in practice learning and student support and assessment and to contribute to the development of an inclusive learning culture throughout this unique organisation. I am now returning to self-employed activities, and look forward to working with colleagues both old and new in the world of Adult Learning!
