Jeong Hoon Kim Email & Phone Number | I have expertise in the design/assembly and operation of atmospheric RF and microwave plasma systems and their applications. My personal career goal is to realize the atmospheric plasma technology and develop unique and marketable plasma processes in cutting-edge research and technology areas. Since I came to the US, I focused on the use of this unique atmospheric RF plasma system to develop superhydrophobic treatment processes. I assembled a custom-made plasma head for this research. In collaboration with Prof. Seong H. Kim, we formulated several processes producing hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings on a variety of materials including metals, Si wafers, glass, paper, polymers, and cotton fabrics. I have been working with Dr. Sunkara group at the University of Louisville since November 2006. Here, I designed advanced atmospheric microwave plasma reactor for the production of metal oxide nanowires (two papers published in Cryst. Growth Des., Journal of Physical Chemistry C). I also designed ring type RF CCP plasma reactor which is being used for the synthesis of Silicon nanowires. Furthermore, I designed a micro needle plasma with RF and DC sources for synthesis studies in a micro-channel (Published to IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology).I also designed and assembled a custom MOCVD reactor with graduate student for III-V binary and ternary nanowires. (Article on InGaN synthesis in preparation) I have experience with the design of plasma based systems using simulation programs such as High Frequency Structure Simulation (HFSS) and ANSYS Fluent. I also work with structural design programs such as Solidworks and Solid-edge. I am sure my expertise can be useful in plasma system development and other CVD reactor development. I am also familiar with the operation/analysis/diagnosis of plasma equipment and materials analysis using PM-RAIRS, Transmission FTIR, XPS, Contact angle, SEM, RAMAN, and XRD. Specialties: 1. Atmosphere and vacuum plasma reactor designing. 2. Set up experimental condition and optimize condition for the CVD, MOCVD, ALD and microwave/RF plasma equipment.
