Jennifer Richards is a Mrs. Richards is a lifelong Nevadan and a first generation college graduate. She graduated with a Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law. While in law school, she served as an associate editor on the Gonzaga Journal of International Law, received a merit scholarship, and was involved in several campus organizations. She is particularly proud of working in the law school’s Elder Law Clinic, providing free legal assistance to seniors facing a myriad of legal issues. Following graduation, she completed a judicial clerkship in the Eighth Judicial District Court in Las Vegas and then worked as a contract public defender in the Seattle area. Upon returning to Nevada, she has practiced public interest law primarily geared towards representing vulnerable adults. In January 2020, she was appointed by Governor Sisolak to serve as the Chief Rights Attorney for the State of Nevada. She has authored legislation to require all Nevada courthouses to contain lactation rooms available to the public, worked on legislation to increase resident rights in group homes and assisted living facilities, and authored legislation creating Nevada's Elder Abuse Fatality Review Teams which were all passed into law. She lives in Reno with her husband, young children, and rescue dog, Penny Lane.
