Jennifer Garam Email & Phone Number | I’m a long-time journalist and website editor, and my career path (and life!) changed dramatically in 2018 when I was diagnosed with Stage 3c ovarian cancer at the age of 43. While undergoing cancer treatment, I decided that I wanted to make a shift in my career to do work that was more personally meaningful—specifically, something that was related to cancer and the oncology field. After completing treatment, I started focusing my journalism work on topics related to cancer and became an expert in this area. I am a regular contributor to the website Everyday Health, and my writing has been featured in The Washington Post and on SELF.com and Allure.com. Previously, I’ve also written for HuffPost, PsychologyToday.com, Health.com, Prevention.com, VICE.com, and more. Since then, my career path and interests have continued to evolve: A few years ago, I started doing influencer and content partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, and earlier this year I began consulting in this space. Last year, I launched my own consultancy, specializing in developing meaningful patient communications for healthcare-related companies and institutions. I also offer keynote speeches and panel moderation, and have a knack for engaging audiences and making complex topics understandable and accessible. My favorite hobby, which I discovered shortly after completing cancer treatment as I was exploring different fitness options in survivorship, is taking hip-hop and pop music dance classes (think: Britney, Beyoncé, boy bands, and ‘90s and early 2000s hip-hop and R&B). I got really into taking virtual dance classes during the pandemic, and have since continued with in-person classes. Being a beginner and taking dance classes purely for enjoyment has helped me let go of my perfectionism…and my resistance to exercising! 😉 I also love yoga—I took my first yoga class 25 years ago the month I moved to New York City and realized I had to do something to counteract the stress of living in the city, and have stuck with it ever since. I’m an avid reader; my favorite is nonfiction, and for fiction the only genre that really consumes me is mystery/thrillers. Other than that, I can often be found sitting in a coffee shop or taking a walk outside. Leveraging my personal experience and professional expertise, I can help pharma/biotech companies, healthcare research firms, and hospitals and cancer centers meaningful engage with patient populations.
