Jennifer Dematteo Email & Phone Number | My career started teaching special education in a Full Inclusion classroom. My goal was to maintain the IEP and to make sure that the students I was serving were able to complete the tasks expected of them in a regular classroom. My job also involved me guiding the regular education teacher to create lessons and evaluations that could be completed by the special education students. Many times I needed to recreate lessons or assessments to make the task manageable for the special education students to achieve. While working in high school the job criteria was the same except I worked with 7 teachers covering English, World History and American History classes. My husband's military career moved us to Florida where I accepted a third grade teaching position in a regular education setting. Again several years later we moved to South Carolina for the same reason. Here I took a third grade position in a Title 1 school located in the inner city. I was able to still use my special education skills, this time serving as an Assistance Team Chairperson to the staff. After a few years I took a position teaching third grade in a school closer to home. I also served as Assistance Team Chairperson there. During the pandemic I chose to teach at our districts Virtual School. I returned to the gourmet grade classroom for 2 years after. In 2022 I accepted a job as a reading specialist in a middle school. I work with struggling readers in a small group setting.
