I am passionate about using the analytical tools offered by philosophy, alongside embodied and experienced ways of knowing, to address the real-world problems we collectively face and to create tangible social good. My work with philanthropic organisations has focused so far on the steady and rapid decline in mental wellbeing that we are seeing in much of the world. My role centres on analysing how philanthropic resources can be strategically deployed to create conditions that are more supportive to cultural, social and emotional wellbeing for every person. I believe in a complex, systems-thinking approach to understanding mental illness, that necessitates looking beyond the biomedical model to understand the social, political and economic factors that contribute to mental ill health, and in drawing on deep cultural and ancestral wisdom to address these challenges. I am also in the final year of my PhD in Philosophy at Monash University. My research focuses on how a more well-developed conceptual understanding of consciousness can inform clinical practice for patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness caused by severe brain injury, and improve our understanding of the lived conscious experience of these individuals. Prior to this I completed a BA (Hons) in Philosophy at Monash University, for which I was awarded a University Medal.
