  Jamila Hammami is a I'm a proud Texan ruckus-maker and longtime grassroots cross-movement organizer. For nearly 20 years, I have fought for racial and migrant justice, LGBTQIA TS & GNC migrant justice, labor rights, anti-imperialism, & how they intersect. As a strategic organizer, I've worked to actualize the bridging of the movements to abolish immigrant prisons, the prison industrial complex, and borders. A Sundance Creative Change and an Opportunity Agenda Communications Institute alum, I hold an affection for educating the masses, movement strategy, direct action, writing, research, speaking truth to power, utilizing creative intervention strategies, and solidarity as resistance. Receiving international recognition, I'm grateful to have my work in book publications, international position papers, and featured in the New York Times to BBC World News. I'm incredibly humbled to receive several honors and awards for organizing work over the years.  I write and am fortunate to have several publications, with a number due for release in 2023. I'm grateful for the opportunity to educate and teach ethnic studies, borders, LGBTQIA TS & GNC communities, community justice, and community organizing. My research and writing interests include empire, militarism, imperialism, fascism, movement and mobility, queer and trans movement, no borders, labor, race, and resistance. I consult as an action-oriented creative interventions strategist and researcher for social change who speaks and provides expert workshops and support on various topics beyond the above. I am also a fortunate member of a BIPOC multi-pronged approach consulting collective that works to transform organizational structures through our lived and professional experiences to create accessible, equitable, and sustainable movement spaces. I'm also a member of various organizations, steering committees, and boards; and am a Steering Committee member of the annual Open Borders Conference and serve as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Free Migration Project (FMP). Before entering higher education, I was the founding executive director of the Queer Detainee Empowerment Project. I hold an MSW in Community Organizing and Program Development with a focus in Immigrants and Refugees from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and a BSW from the University of North Texas.
