For the last 15 years, I have been an account manager and European Equity general salesman at UBS, Barclays Capital and now J.P. Morgan, servicing institutional and hedge fund investors, advising on cash and non-cash equity investments. The role is essentially a sales role, but encompasses the much broader remit of helping investors access a wide variety of products, in addition to connecting clients to all of the best and brightest people across the investment bank. One of things that I care passionately about is stewardship - ensuring that the teams I've worked on are hiring and retaining the best candidates. As such, I've been closely involved with campus and graduate recruitment throughout my career, sitting on various recruitment committees at UBS and Barclays. I also helped to redesign the Barclays graduate recruitment website, and led part of the campus recruitment effort. In terms of retaining the best people, in addition to managing a number of juniors, I was also involved in the promotion and remuneration process at Barclays, as well as the Human Capital Program.
