While with Thames Valley Police I was responsible for operational policing in Milton Keynes City, firearms and public order response and training, running an intelligence and crime surveillance team, investigating complaints against police officers and ensuring professional policing standards, as well as a programme to review police resourcing and improve productivity. I worked as a superintendent in the Home Office Police Productivity Unit for nearly two years and was a specialist staff officer within Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary for two years. In these roles I managed programmes to improve national police performance, efficiency and effectiveness and to reduce bureaucracy and introduce reform in the police service. I sat on a number of senior Home Office and managed programmes to identify and share best practice between forces and government departments. I was a regular ‘subject expert’ speaker on performance and efficiency at conferences. I retired from the police in August 2006, and for a couple of years after that provided consultancy services to the Home Office, Police Forces and the Conservative party on a number of occasions. Specialties: • Consulting skills • Identifying and delivering practical solutions to problems • Communication skills - public speaking, oral and written communications • Good people skills • Analysing complex information – including statistical data • Report writing • Strong negotiating skills • Good IT literacy • Extensive experience of practical operational planning and delivery
