James Eales is a I am a third year PhD student at Sheffield Hallam University. My PhD is in glass science, particulaly looking at the effects of iron in radioactive waste glasses and is match funded by the US Department of Energy and the Materials Engineering and Research Institute (MERI) at SHU. While my background is predominantly in physics, having done an integrated master's degree at NTU in physics, I have always welcomed the opportunity to learn new concepts and ideas and this is no exception. I have always had a passion for research, so having the opportunity to apply myself to a field that is utilised across the world is both exciting, and a privelage. I am also a member of the Energy branch of the Doctoral Training Association (DTA) as a student.
