My first job out of school was a very unique experience. When I started at LG Chem, there was no building or equipment so myself and 15 other engineers lived in South Korea for 11 weeks to learn how make lithium ion batteries for the automotive industry. Once back in Michigan, I was part of the machine installations, training of technical operators and eventually the production part approval process for GM. It was pretty awesome to see a company go from dirt floors and 25 employees to a highly automated, clean room production facility with over 200 team members. After about 3 1/2 years at LG, I realized that even though I really enjoyed the job and people I worked with, Holland wasn't home and I moved back to Cleveland. When I first got a tour of Mayfran International, I was like a kid in a candy store seeing all of the different types of manufacturing processes taking place under one roof and I knew I wanted to work there. In 2014 I started as Mayfran's first manufacturing engineer dedicated 100% to continuous improvement. I split my time between working on designs in the office and being out on the floor getting my hands dirty working with maintenance and the operators to build fixtures, jigs and eventually fully automated equipment. Two of the automation projects were so successful that they were recognized by Mayfran's parent company Tsubaki and I went to Japan in 2017 & 2019 to present them at their annual Kaizen event. In 2019 I became a core team member for implementing a new ERP system at Mayfran. Being part of Epicor deployment team has given me a better understanding of all the intertwined processes involved in a manufacturing company. Over the years, the manufacturing team at Mayfran expanded and in 2020 I became the coordinator of the 6 person department. Whether working in the automated world of mass production at LG or the engineered to order fabrication world at Mayfran, the most rewarding thing for me has always been answering the question "How do we make it better?"
